Immune System [rate]

Inflammation is simply the natural response of the body to infection or tissue injury.  It is a good response by the immune system because it is protective.  However, it can destroy the body if it becomes chronic or when the body continues to attack what is considered as invaders. Prolonged inflammation leads to or increases the risk of several conditions and diseases. Some of these conditions and diseases include cancer, arthritis, auto-immune disorders, allergies and depression.

Basically, chronic inflammation can worsen or trigger most health conditions and diseases and this should be a cause for concern. Nevertheless, there are supplements that can be used in treating prolonged inflammation. Majority of these supplements are based on the nutrients that stop the inflammatory cytokines as well as prostaglandins action without causing side effects. They are effective anti-inflammatory agents and most of them do not have the side effects that most prescription drugs have.

EPA in fish oil

Eicosapentaenoic acid or simply EPA is commonly found in cold water fish. It is among the major natural anti-inflammatory supplements. EPA can also be created through the conversion of flaxseed oil. This acid works with Docosahexaenoic acid or DHA in reducing bad prostaglandins’ formation while regulating the production of the immune factor which is responsible for controlling the speed, duration and level of the action or reaction of the immune system. EPA produces anti-inflammatory prostaglandins.

Curcumin in turmeric

The curcuminoids in turmeric are also popular anti-inflammatory supplements. They work by blocking enzymes that are responsible for inflammation. Turmeric prevents arachidonic acid’s breakdown. Curcumin suppresses NF-kB restricting different NF-kB activators while preventing its expression. Several studies have shown that curcumin reduces the factors of inflammatory immune, IL-1 as well as IL-6 which microglia cells secretes when taken in high and low doses.

Generally, inflammation can be a silent threat to your health. However, with proper diet and supplements you can minimize it and avoid the killer health conditions and diseases that are associated with it.
